St. George Malankara Orthodox Church was established on November 2013. We are a part of the Northeast American Diocese of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church. The Malankara (Indian) Orthodox Churches are the descendants of St. Thomas, one of the twelve apostles of Jesus Christ, who established Christianity in India. We are the first Malankara Orthodox church in the Philadelphia region dedicated in the name of St George and we worship the Almighty God in the traditions and practices of the Malankara Orthodox beliefs.
Rev. Fr. Abu Varghese Peter was appointed as the Vicar by the Diocesan Metropolitan, His Grace Dr. Zacharia Mar Nicholovos. On November 3rd 2013, we celebrated our first Holy Qurbana led by Rev. Fr M. K. Kuriakose with the blessings of the Metropolitan. Our Parish was consecrated by the Diocesan Metropolitan on May 30th & 31st of year 2014.
With the excellent leadership, utmost spirituality, humility and the love of Rev. Fr. Abu Varghese Peter, our congregation is continuously growing.
"God is Faithful, who has called you into fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord."
1 Corinthians 1:9
Our community, united in our Orthodox Christian faith, aspires to live a Christ-centered life as set forth by our Holy Tradition. Strengthened by our Indian Orthodox (Malankara) culture and the actions and sacrifices of our Apostolic founders and predecessors, we live as one, multicultural parish family sharing Christ’s love in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
"Go into all the world and proclaim the good news to the whole creation."
We gather to praise God, listen to him, and respond through bible studies, Holy Qurbana, evening prayer, prayer meetings and bible studies. We nurture each other in faith and obedience to Christ. We love and care for one another as God's people.
